For caregivers, the risk of musculoskeletal injuries is extremely high with manual lifting, transfers, and repositioning of patients. One-third of all reported occupational injuries in health care result from heavy lifting, and 7 out of 10 caregivers consider their work to be heavy.
Letting our products do the heavy lifting minimizes risks associated with manual lifting as well as reducing unnecessary strain on the body. Our overhead lifts contribute to a better work environment, which ultimately results in fewer people being absent due to sick leave.
Ultimately this results in lower staffing costs and a higher level of service for patients, which, in the long run, may contribute to savings in both public or payer finances.
Benefits with overhead lifts
The overhead lift is the best possible mobility aid for moving a patient in a nursing environment. Being mounted in the ceiling, the lift allows for the floor space to remain uncluttered. Thus, the caregivers may move around more freely, safely and speedily.
The overhead lift can be installed in any environment and will reach every position in the room – without furniture posing a hindrance. Having all needed prerequisites for heavy lifts at hand saves lots of time, allowing for more – and more cost-efficient – caregiving.
Choosing the right size of a sling
For optimum comfort and safety, it is important to have the right size of sling. A sling in a too small size may provide too less support and can become uncomfortable for the user. For example, it can cut into the groin or risk that the hanger bar comes to close to the user’s head.
With an oversized sling it can be a risk for the user of sliding out of the sling since the opening can become too large.
A sling that is too low or short can provide too little support in the back or neck and can therefore be a security risk. This also means less comfort for the user.
To make it easy to see what size sling has, they have a color mark that varies depending on the size.
Choosing the right material of a sling
Choosing the right material is important when choosing a sling since the different materials have unique characteristics that are suitable to different lifting situations. Often, you want a material that is robust and has low friction which makes the sling easy to apply and remove.
When you want to use the sling in connection with bath and shower you need to have a net material that dries quickly and is easy to keep clean.
If you want the opportunity to leave the sling in a wheelchair or bed after the lift is done you need a breathable material and a sling without any reinforcements, handles or paddings.
